The Lagos State Government has commenced reforms in its hospitality and tourism sector, aimed at streamlining regulation, simplifying licensing processes and improving investor confidence. The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, said over 500 tourism and hospitality establishments have been enumerated across the state as part of the groundwork for the reforms. She disclosed this during the annual ministerial press briefing marking the seventh year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration. The commissioner said the enumeration exercise would support the creation of a comprehensive database for sector planning, regulation and development. “It would help the ministry develop a comprehensive database for effective regulation, sector planning, and tourism development,” she said. Benson-Awoyinka said the government was working to harmonise tourism laws, permits and licensing fees to eliminate duplication and reduce multiple charges on operators. According to her, the reforms were designed to improve the ease of doing business and attract increased private sector investment into Lagos’ hospitality industry. She said the initiative aligned with the state government’s broader goal of positioning Lagos as a globally competitive tourism and hospitality destination. The commissioner assured stakeholders that the government would continue engagement with industry operators to ensure the reforms support sustainable growth across the sector.
